I must confess at the outset that I am neither a supporter or detractor of acupuncture. For me the jury is still out. However, I am happy to relay my first experience at TCM with acupuncture. In October 2018 I badly dislocated my shoulder and required shoulder reconstruction. The surgery went well however by February 2019 the nerve controlling the deltoids on my right arm had not recovered and the muscles continued to waste away. My surgeon advised that the nerve would recover in its own time and little could be done to speed its recovery. This was not good news as I was unable to lift my arm to the front, side or rear. With no knowledge of what acupuncture could or couldn’t do I wondered if acupuncture could reactivate the nerve controlling the deltoid. I Googled ‘acupuncture Parramatta’ and TCM came up – and one afternoon after work I visited, not knowing what to expect. After filling out a brief questionnaire I was directed to lay down on a table. The practitioner then asked me to lift my right arm off the table whilst I lay on my back – which I could not do, despite my best efforts. My efforts were also recorded on the practioners phone as if he knew what was about to come. A pin then went in to my left arm (note: it was my right shoulder that was injured). The practitioner then took his phone out again, started recording and asked me to try and lift my right arm again – and did I ever, well over my head, again and again. In fact so many times the practitioner had to tell me to stop because I would get worn out. I still don’t know what to think. Was it something he did or was it all in my head, I don’t know, but I do know I lifted my arm & can still do so now. Either way something happened, and its recorded for proof. Make up your own mind. As I said before for me the jury is still out – but something extraordinary did happen.
